The American collection is the largest fund in number the musée du quai Branly: rich 100 000 objects, it is presented through a selection of nearly 900 pieces, following a course organized in two parts, the recent America and present meet in pre-Columbian America.

At the end of the section on African collections, black Americas are presented by objects from the Maroons of Guyana, the Candomblé productions from Brazil and a set of voodoo ritual parts of Haiti

Bering Strait to Tierra del Fuego

The museum of the Americas then favors a presentation of Native American collections by major cultural areas. Several sequences punctuate this journey, from north to south, the Bering Strait to Tierra del Fuego. The Arctic and the Northwest Coast are mainly illustrated by masks of Alaska, masks and figurines from Greenland and Inuit ivory productions. At the foot of the mast Bear, masks and beyond British Columbia containers side with baskets, belts and caps of California Indians. Inherited from the collections of the kings of France, painted skins, wampum, peace pipes, weapons, productions beads from the Great Lakes and the Mississippi Valley are evidence of contact between Native Americans and French in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries >> read more
