Description

The sea is a source of great inspiration in the art of the Solomon Islands, an archipelago located north-west of New Guinea. The visual appearance and function are often linked; forms, jobs, and materials are closely intertwined and give birth to a homogeneous art but with subtle nuances. The objects are thought by clean lines, rounded and offer very elegant forms. This book presents a collection of Kevin Conru on the art of the Solomon Islands and includes a large sample of objects, ornaments, weapons, jewelry, statues, etc. The amount and variety of objects of this art are such that the Solomon Islands is difficult to find a unique collection that is fully representative. However that of Kevin Conru is sufficiently substantial to address seriously the art of this region more than 250 color illustrations, including many boards with a detailed description of replicated objects. It includes masks Nissan canoe prows New Georgia and Choiseul and many other parts, from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century, all the rest of the archipelago.
