The history, culture and art of peoples Wan, Mona and Koyaka – Secrecy, statuary, masks dual status: Goli, sacred and secret masks, the Doh Koyaka of the region Mankono the Gyé Mona, vulva, “deity” major and sculptors … These three people, it is true, live in a relatively remote region, after difficult tracks in the center-west of Côte d ‘ Ivoire along the banks of the river white Bandama and its tributaries and the Béré Marahoué, and their art is largely “invisible” to the traveler who crosses the country and has little chance of seeing dances with masks (mostly prohibited to women, African and Western) while the statues are hidden in the depths of the houses. But ignorance of the West with regard to these peoples’ primarily a culture of secrecy that allowed them to resist for centuries, in many servo and maintain their artistic independence: a secret that among them a deep connection with the sacred. Levi-Srauss do not he said: “The truth tells the care she takes to conceal?”
