Exhibition catalog Kanak Art is a word” in the Quai Branly Museum, the largest conducted on Kanak culture, featuring over 300 exceptional works: carved doorframes Great Houses, axes ostensories jade sculptures umbrella , statuettes and ornaments of a wide variety and exceptional documents from public collections in Europe (Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany and Italy) and New Caledonia. The catalog is organized around two main principles:

1- Kanak speak for themselves> These are the Kanak themselves that provide the visitor the way of understanding their world and their vision. They comment on the essential aspects in the first person and inserting in history, distinguishing between the timeless and the factual. This is why the exhibition is structured according to specific categories Kanak cultural world.

2- Kanak and Europeans share their looks> The exhibition attempts to reconcile two points of view: that of the Kanak watching these visitors from another world and the Marine, colon or European missionary on the life and words Kanak. The exhibition is an opportunity around objects and documents presented, to communicate the rich intangible heritage of the Kanak world and works largely derived from Western museums are the guardians of good today part of the material heritage.
