Catalog about the life Noel Ballay (1843-1902) – first director Explorer and then he discovered another world he looked with eyes physician, scientist and policy that could be qualified as of “colonial humanism“. He spent many years in West Africa in 1901 and donated 137 objects in the Museum of Chartres many items from his collection of African art collection found through private and public collections of loans almost in its entirety. Through its objects bequeathed to Chartres Museum, and many others came from public collections such as those of private collectors, we can admire some of the most beautiful works created by men and peoples of virgin Africa European influence. It contains Punu works Pinji Language, Batéké, Fang, Pygmy, Wei, Bete, Dan, Baule … etc … informed by the writings of Noël Ballay.
