Description
Now called “primitive art” which formerly corresponded to the questionable term “Black Arts” or “primitive arts”: the evolution of the vocabulary reflects the rehabilitation of these artistic productions “non-Western“. In the same pedagogical and clear mind that identifies the other titles in the collection Instructions, Bérénice Geoffroy-Schneiter invites us to know the objects and artworks which are designated by that name, which comes from our 5 continents. It deciphers for us the rituals, sacred places, the scriptures of the body and all other extraordinarily diverse forms of these arts known “first”. More than 150 reproductions of works – major parts unknown and met, as well as 50 old documents and photographs from the Barbier-Mueller Fund and the Dapper Foundation, come support the comments of the author.
