This study is the result of a long attendance Bobo people that has continued during repeated stays (28 in total) during first thirteen years spent in Upper Volta commissioned by the Centre for French Institute of Black Africa and, subsequently, during five missions provided by the Centre for Scientific Research. This book was designed according to the following scheme: – The first part, entitled “The Bobo” having to defining and ethnic personality Bobo and basic frameworks of their social organization. The two central parts “Myths and Gods” and “Masks” (Nature and Function) gather material which constitutes the bulk of the topic: the various spiritual entities masks themselves in turn are reviewed the material and theoretical aspects. Finally, an end part, entirely devoted to this great institution Initiation” illustrates in particular the level of the lived reality – the conditions in which are implemented the principles that have been analyzed in the body of the book.
